Interactive Video: The Aftermath of the Atlanta Test Cheating Scandal

Eleven Atlanta educators convicted of conspiracy in one of the nation’s largest cheating scandals are just now beginning their appeals, more than two years after they were sentenced to prison. Nearly 200 educators in Atlanta public schools were caught up in the scandal, suspected of erasing and correcting student answers on standardized tests, in order to boost scores. They were under enormous pressure from the federal No Child Left Behind law and from their own superintendent, Beverly Hall, who set targets even higher than the federal government. Thousands of students were impacted, and now, many years later, the district has set up a program to offer extra help to those students who remain in Atlanta public schools.

    Pearl Harbor: 24 Hours After
    Sunday, December 7 at 10am/9c

December 7 will forever be remembered as the day Pearl Harbor was attacked, yet little has been revealed about President Franklin D. Roosevelt‘s first responses to the news of Japan’s attack on U.S. soil on that day in 1941. This two-hour special spotlights secrets and little-known details about FDR’s leadership and decision-making during the critical hours after the attack. Pearl Harbor: 24 Hours After also explores the treatment of Japanese Americans in the wake of the attack. Students will learn about the context in which the U.S. entered World War II, and will be able to explore questions of leadership and ethics during this tumultuous era in world history.

Pearl Harbor: 24 Hours After would be useful for History, Global Studies and Politics courses and for course units and lectures on World War II. It is appropriate for middle school and high school students.
